BLACK BEAR REVISITED
The Isolation Blues;
reflections during covid-19
So here’s another bear story…interestingly enough, this story occurred only a couple of weeks after the first so it could very well be the same bear. (As I remember it) I was washing dishes at the cabin one night after supper around 6 o’clock and I heard someone walk onto the front porch. I didn’t think anything of it, I just assumed it was my father who quite often would drop by for a visit. When he didn’t come in I was curious so I dried off my hands and went to the door. When I swung open the door I was face to face with a big ol’ black bear. I think he was just as surprised as I was. The bear was standing and when he saw me he started back-pedaling as quickly as he could trying to keep his balance as he fell backwards off the porch. When I saw the bear my first instinct was to yell (I don’t remember what I yelled), I jumped back and fell backwards into the cabin. We were quite the comical pair! As I thought about it afterwards, if it was the same bear he was probably just coming back to see what I had been grilling lately. At least this time I didn’t chase after him. All in all it’s just one more bear story to tell around the campfire.
Still in the woods,
Dave
