MERRY CHRISTMAS
Backwoods Blog;
in the woods and on the road…
As December quickly winds down, I’d like to wish all Backwoods Blog readers a splendid transition to the new year in 2025. Thanks for following the blog and coming along for the ride. Here is a journal entry (from this time of year) back in 2012, when Linda and I were still skiing back and forth from US Route 1 to our home half a mile away. After twenty years (and winters) of making the commute, Linda doesn’t miss that part of the lifestyle change.
Journal Entry; December 19, 2012
Last evening, as Linda and I were putting on our skis readying ourselves for the commute across the field to the farmhouse, I looked up into the absolutely clear night sky and saw a large falling star streak westward across the blackness. Linda was still working on her gear and missed it. It is almost impossible for two people to see the same falling star. Even when you are looking for a falling star, scanning a broad width of night sky, it’s rare to spot one right on. More often than not, you’ll catch part of one with your peripheral vision or perhaps catch the tail end of its fall straight on. I just happened to be looking up at the right time in the right celestial location and caught a full view of its plummet. While I’ve seen dozens and dozens of shooting stars, I don’t believe I’ve ever seen one so clearly, or so poetically on a cold winter night. I didn’t even ask Linda, “Did you see that?”
Merry Christmas & Happy Holidays from Backwoods Blog!
In the woods,
Dave
